Choosing the right name for a blog and/or social media handle can be challenging. However, after much brainstorming, we were fortunate enough to come up with two names that fit us perfectly.
When we decided to sell most of our belongings and take our two-person show on the road for a series of unforgettable adventures, we quickly realized that we needed to come up with a website and social media name. Initially, our site was intended to be shared only with family and friends. In discussions, they shared our excitement about retirement travel, so we knew they would enjoy reading our adventures and seeing our photos, and for those who were unable to travel, to live vicariously through us. Since we’d never blogged before, we were pretty clueless on where to start and even how to post. Over several weeks and many glasses of wine both at home and at our favorite local haunts, we tossed around dozens of names as possibilities but ultimately dismissed many of them outright – some faster than others!
Even though Richard and I often complete each other’s sentences, we both have our unique thought processes, so coming up with the “best” name to represent us as a dynamic travel duo was not easy. For example, I was leaning toward the name “Trekking with the Bonneys,” where each post would feature a quote from a character in the Star Trek universe that would match the post topic. Quirky and fun. Alas, I’m the only Trekkie of the two of us, so we decided to nix that one. That being said, if someone out there thinks that is a wonderful idea and decides to run with it, please send me a link - I’d love to follow your site! 😊
Getting down to crunch time with our ticketed travel booked for the first leg of our adventure, we kept coming back to popular words that best described what we were doing and trying to accomplish. Words like wanderlust, vagabond, and nomad. Then it suddenly hit me: VagaBonney! Not only was it a clever use of our last name, but it also encapsulated the essence of what we were setting out to do – travel together and live our best life. Richard was all for this moniker, and so the grand adventures of the @VagaBonneys enjoying our @VagaBonneyLife began.
