Finding Our Break: Unexpected Pool Games Around the World
We aren't pool sharks, and we certainly don't go out of our way to hunt down billiards halls in every new country we visit. But every once in a while, serendipity hands us a green (and sometimes blue, red, or black) felt table right when we need a moment to unwind.
Whether a timeshare happens to have a table in the lounge, a cozy neighborhood pub sits right around the corner from a house sit, or our local hotel bar becomes an extension of our living room, rolling a few games has become a playful background thread throughout our journey.
From Downtown San Diego to Overseas Tables
Long before we took off for full-time travel, this little tradition was already brewing back home. When we lived in downtown San Diego, the Courtyard Marriott practically became our local neighborhood bar. It was our go-to spot to grab a drink, catch up on the week, and, occasionally, rack up a quick game.

The Universal Language of the Table
The great thing about pool is that you don't need a grand plan or a shared language to enjoy it. The rules are always the same—even if the table has a slight tilt to the left or the cue sticks have seen better days!
It gives us a familiar slice of routine no matter where we are in the world. We don't actively seek them out, but whenever a table appears nearby, you can bet we’ll be chalking up our cues.
